GHD Curls Starter Guide
The trusty GHD has been around for years and is a must have beauty tool for men and women alike. You will often see the team using these in our hair salon Cork and the great thing about GHDs is that it is actually a multi-purpose hair tool. Aside from arguably being the best straightening product on the market, it can also double up as a hair curler.
The ‘messy’ curl look made popular by celebrities such as the Olsen twins and Lauren Conrad has been a popular request amongst our customers of late. The good news is with a little bit of practice, you too can create the much sought after look. Let us run through some basic tips to get you started:
-
Create the look with dry hair. (Straighten first if you want that ‘tidy’ end result).
-
Apply the same heat protective products you would use if you were straightening your hair. If you would like some recommendations on what products to use please don’t hesitate to contact us or visit our shop for hair salon products Cork.
-
Clip your hair up into sections.
-
Take a section of hair. Remember: working on a big section of hair will result in a wider and more ‘flowy’ look at the end.
-
Brush through the hair before styling. Take the GHD hair straighteners and hold it horizontally (as you usually would for straightening). Clamp it down on the hair - a few centimetres from the roots.
-
To make this next part easier, hold the GHD at the end. Twist your wrist up and turn the GHD at the same time. Repeat until you reach the end of your hair. This takes practice to perfect so try not to worry if you can’t get it right at first.
-
For best results, spray a little hair-spray on the curl you've just created to keep it in place.
-
For the next curl you plan to create, twist the GHD in the opposite direction of the one next to it. This creates that all important 'messy-curl' look that is so sought after.
-
And finally, practice, practice, practice! Try it out at home first or on a volunteer. This is the best way to become a curling pro!
